Abstract

This research study aimed to develop a model of success of information system tailored to SMEs in Nairobi County’s context. To address the above objective, this study conducted a field survey in determining the factors for information systems success in Nairobi County. This research study utilized questionnaires and SPSS for data collection and analysis respectively. This study adopted Delone and Mclean’s (2003) success of information system model and extended it using factors obtained from the field study survey. Regression analysis was performed to evaluate the model. The model was further validated using case study method using questionnaires issued out to staff in two SME healthcare units. From the study findings, it was revealed that all the independent variables studied that resource supply, education and training, user involvement and management support were positively related to intention to use information systems, which was the dependent variable. Indeed, it was established that the studied independent and dependent variables had a solid connections. Education and training had the largest impact in explaining the variation in intention to use, followed by resource supply, user involvement and lastly management support. The results of the study present a model of factors for success of information systems in SMEs in emerging economies with a specific reference to Kenya (Nairobi).
